"There are chances for work all around just now, opportunities right in our way." [Hymn #223]
We have a few wonderful opportunities right now to reach out and serve people in our community. How will you choose to bless someone in need and "do something more" with your day?
First, combined with our Stake Pioneer Day celebration, there will be a food drive for the Inter-faith Council Food Pantry. The Inter-faith Council is a not-for-profit, non-denominational social service organization that provides basic services to combat poverty, hunger, and homelessness in our area. We will be collecting non-perishable food items for them to distribute to those in need. You can bring your donations to the activity at the stake center (1050 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill) on Saturday, July 28, at 5:00 PM. Here is a list of currently needed items:
Second, Tanya Kelley, a sister in our ward, is hosting a community give-back event on Saturday, August 4, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at 51 Ridgeway Ave, Durham. Volunteers are needed during that time to do hair and makeup and to help individuals from the community fill out job applications. Tanya is also collecting many needed items to distribute, as listed below. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer or arrange to drop off donations, please contact Tanya.
Finally, you can always check out JustServe.org to find needs and service opportunities that will fit your schedule and abilities. Maybe you can find a way to serve together as a family or with the sisters you minister to.
